Timing belt or timing chain?
The mainstream engines in this line use a timing chain. What to know about this model line
A dedicated hybrid offered only with a gasoline four cylinder paired to an electric drive system, with a larger displacement four cylinder arriving in the last years of this span. Front wheel drive throughout, with an all wheel drive version added later in the span that drives the rear wheels with a separate electric motor rather than a driveshaft. Plug in hybrid versions were sold alongside the standard hybrid for much of the period.
- The gasoline engine uses a timing chain, so there is no timing belt replacement on the calendar for any year in this range.
- The transmission is a planetary electronically controlled transaxle, not a belt and pulley CVT, so the pulley and belt service assumptions people apply to conventional CVTs do not transfer to it. It still has a specific fluid and a stated interval worth confirming in the maintenance schedule rather than assuming a lifetime fill.
- Regenerative braking means the friction brakes typically do less of the stopping work than on a comparable non hybrid, which changes the brake side of a maintenance budget. Separately, the high voltage traction battery carries its own manufacturer coverage terms, and the small 12 volt auxiliary battery is an ordinary consumable that is not the same part.
